Study Group Description:
The study group is for intermediate and advanced psychoanalysts and psychoanalytic psychotherapists. The topic compares different theoretical definitions and clinical approaches to intersubjectivity and their application to relational psychoanalysis. The program is designed to provide greater understanding of the different forms of intersubjectivity and their relevance to contemporary practice.
The study group will read important theoretical and clinical papers and book chapters on the forms of intersubjectivity theory in current psychoanalytic practice and infant research.
Learning Objectives:
1. Explain the differences and similarities among intersubjectivity theories and how they affect clinical understanding and psychoanalytic technique
2. Apply intersubjectivity theories and relational approaches to different patient populations.
Presenter:
Dr. Monty Evans is a faculty member at the Dallas Psychoanalytic Center and Associate Professor at UT Southwestern where he has supervised dissertation research on attachment theory for over ten years. He has explored relational and intersubjective approaches for over twenty years and completed postgraduate training in relational approaches at the William Alanson White Psychoanalytic Institute and the Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute.
